Product description

Change Foods produces real, animal-identical cheese proteins using precision fermentation. Microbes ferment plant-based sugars to create casein and whey proteins that are molecularly the same as dairy proteins. These proteins are then processed through traditional cheesemaking techniques to produce cheese with authentic taste, texture, and melting properties. The resulting product is fully lactose-free, hormone-free, and hypoallergenic, catering to a wide range of dietary needs.

This innovative process uses significantly fewer resources compared to conventional dairy farming. It requires up to 10 times less water, 100 times less land, and 5 times less energy, making it a sustainable alternative to traditional dairy production methods. Initial research and development are being conducted in Palo Alto and San Jose's BioCube, with plans for commercial-scale production in the UAE by 2025.

Change Foods collaborates with manufacturers and retailers to incorporate their animal-free dairy products into packaged goods and menus, introducing consumers and foodservice platforms to a more sustainable and ethically sourced dairy option. By offering a solution that is both environmentally friendly and delicious, Change Foods is revolutionizing the dairy industry and meeting the growing demand for sustainable food choices.

About the Company

Change Foods is a US–Australian food-tech startup founded in 2020 in Palo Alto, specializing in precision fermentation to create animal‑free dairy proteins such as casein and whey. By using engineered microbes, they produce dairy-identical ingredients for cheese—without cows. With over $15 million in seed funding and strategic collaborations with Upfield and Sigma, they combine traditional cheesemaking techniques with biotech to deliver authentic taste, texture, and function. Operating from R&D labs in Silicon Valley and a future facility under construction in the UAE, their mission is to disrupt global dairy, offering sustainable, scalable, and hypoallergenic dairy solutions that reduce environmental impact and expand access to clean, animal‑free dairy.
