Awards & Recognitions
I was given the CEO award for developing and implementing proactive surface water management at Sishen Mine, which reduces the standing time due to rainfall events and prevented unplanned discharge of stormwater at the mine during the rainy season.

What I specialize in
- Mine water management strategy — developing integrated water management plans, risk frameworks, and decision-support tools that align with GISTM, ESG disclosure requirements, and international best practice (ICMM, IFC Performance Standards)
- Water security planning for resource industries — scenario-based water balance modelling, supply-demand gap analysis, and drought/climate resilience strategies for mining operations and large-scale agriculture across Africa
- Regulatory strategy and water licensing — navigating complex water law frameworks (South Africa's National Water Act, Kenya's EMCA/NEMA, and equivalent African jurisdictions) to develop defensible licence applications and compliance roadmaps
- Probabilistic and scenario-based water balance modelling — multi-scenario risk dashboards that quantify water availability, operational risk, and regulatory exposure under variable climate and operational conditions
- Contaminant impact assessment and source-term modelling — analytical and numerical modelling of contaminant transport to support ESG reporting, water quality risk management, and mine closure planning
- AI-powered water data management — agentic AI systems and automated reporting pipelines that transform fragmented monitoring datasets into auditable, real-time decision intelligence for water managers and boards
- Blockchain-enabled water reporting — immutable, traceable water data disclosure solutions for ESG reporting, investor due diligence, and regulatory compliance
- GIS and spatial data analytics — advanced geospatial analysis, remote sensing interpretation, and Python/PyQGIS scripting to support catchment-scale water management and land-water interaction assessments
Previous projects
1. Kumba Agribusiness Water Specialist Studies — Kumba Iron Ore (2026) Specialist water studies supporting the development of an agribusiness programme at Kumba Iron Ore's mining operations in the Northern Cape. Work encompassed water use licence applications for large-scale irrigation using mine return water, contaminant transport modelling, water quality fitness-for-use assessment, and Source-Pathway-Receptor impact analysis — translating mine water from a liability into a productive agricultural resource.
2. Mogalakwena Mine Rain Readiness Plan — Valterra Platinum (2025) Development of a comprehensive operational rain readiness plan for one of the world's largest open-pit platinum mines ahead of the 2025/26 rainy season. The plan integrated hydrological risk assessment, early warning triggers, and operational response protocols to protect mine infrastructure, minimise water-related production downtime, and ensure regulatory compliance during extreme rainfall events.
3. Kumba Corporate Water Management Strategy 2024–2028 — Kumba Iron Ore (2023) Developed the five-year Water Management Strategy for the Kumba Business Unit (Anglo American), spanning the Sishen and Kolomela iron ore operations. The strategy included the Kumba Water Management Vision and a structured roadmap to achieve sustainable, compliant, and operationally resilient water management across both operations — aligning with ESG commitments and Anglo American's broader water stewardship framework.
4. Bingham Canyon Mine Proactive Surface Water Management — Rio Tinto (2024) Reviewed existing surface water management practices at Rio Tinto's Bingham Canyon copper mine (Utah, USA) and developed a proactive surface water management framework for site-wide implementation. The framework established risk-based protocols and operational procedures to prevent rainfall-related production disruption and environmental incidents — part of a broader global push by Rio Tinto to standardise proactive water risk management across its operations portfolio.
How can I help you
Acqua Rinova Group is a specialist water consulting firm operating at the intersection of water science, sustainable engineering, and data intelligence — built to serve Africa's mining and agricultural sectors, where water security is both a regulatory imperative and a business-critical risk. Through three integrated divisions, Acqua Rinova delivers end-to-end water solutions via our three divisions: Blue Core Solutions handles specialist groundwater, surface water, and water balance services; Blue Harvest Projects translates water science into sustainable, on-the-ground agricultural and project implementation outcomes; and Blue Rinova Analytics brings cutting-edge AI, database, and blockchain-enabled reporting to water data management — making complex water systems legible, auditable, and decision-ready. Whether you need a mine water management plan that meets GISTM and ESG disclosure requirements, a water use licence for large-scale agri-irrigation, or a probabilistic water balance model to stress-test operational risk under climate variability, Acqua Rinova brings rigorous science and practical delivery together — turning Africa's most complex water challenges into credible, bankable solutions.
