Project description

The Livingseas coral restoration site in Padangbai is the largest coral reef restoration site in Bali. With more than 6,000 reef structures installed on the seabed, the restored reef extends over 5,500 sqm of degraded reef. The marine ecosystem has fully rebounded, with an incredible amount of marine biodiversity coming back to live on the new reef.

With work continuing on the restoration site towards a total goal of 5 hectares of the restored reef, any diver or even non-diver can come to learn about coral restoration by joining the project, and getting their hands dirty with some coral restoration!

The Livingseas coral restoration pontoon is a purpose-built floating pontoon that's anchored over our 5,500 sqm coral restoration site in Padangbai, Bali.

We've created this pontoon with the TUI Care Foundation as a way to allow more people to appreciate the beauty of a coral reef, as well as a way for people to participate in this activity and give back to the ocean!

We welcome anybody who has an interest in the ocean to come visit and plant some corals with us, and get the chance to snorkel and see what a healthy living reef looks like.

You'll get the chance to attach live coral fragments onto coral structures, which our diving team can later combine into the larger reef while you snorkel and watch from above.

You can even try scuba diving with our instructors when you're on the pontoon if you'd like to take a closer look at the teeming life thriving on the reef we've built.

Combined with a pickup service and a lovely cooked lunch on the pontoon, this is a perfect way to spend a day in Bali! Perfect for adults, families, and kids!

Please do your part for the ocean, join us and experience what's possible with ecosystem restoration!

Objectives

To restore 5 hectares of reef around Padangbai, Bali, and later expanding to other degraded reefs around the region.

Impact & Achievements

5,500 sqm of reef rebuilt, 5 restoration sites set up in Indonesia and Thailand. Barracudas, sharks, turtles, and even dolphins have come back to live on our restored reef.

How you can help

Come visit the site, as each tourist can participate in coral restoration and create a direct impact to the reef. Snorkelers, divers, and school or corporate groups are all welcome to come visit our site and learn about marine restoration.

Donors can also purchase our reef structures online and contribute something to the ocean from back home. We will plant the structures with coral and personalise them with our bamboo tags. Each month, we will send updates on the coral growth to each donor, showing them both the horizontal and vertical growth of their corals.

About the NGO

The Livingseas Foundation was created to address the pressing needs of the ocean. From coral reef restoration to limiting ocean waste, the Foundation works with local communities to create impact projects that restore marine biodiversity to what it once was. We do this in 3 main areas, direct impact through coral reef restoration projects, proper waste management in coastal towns, and the training and education of local youth in the sustainable management of these projects for the long term.
