Product description

The IRIBA Tap & Drink Water ATM is a climate-smart kiosk system designed to provide safe drinking water in schools and communities. The system combines rainwater harvesting or treated municipal sources with advanced purification technology, including reverse osmosis and UV treatment. The purified water is dispensed through automated kiosks using reusable bottles and a card system for convenient access.

Each water ATM is cost-effective, with a 70% lower cost per liter compared to bottled water. The kiosks are operated by trained local youth under a franchise model, with 85% of operators being women. This approach not only provides employment opportunities but also ensures community ownership and sustainability. The system collects usage data and educates users about best practices for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).

Widely adopted in Rwanda, DR Congo, and CAR, the IRIBA Tap & Drink Water ATM has served hundreds of thousands of users, empowering communities with reliable clean water access. By reducing plastic waste, enhancing health outcomes, and promoting climate adaptation through lower dependence on packaged water, this solution is a sustainable and impactful way to address water challenges.

About the Company

IRIBA Water Group is a Rwandan social enterprise founded in 2017 by Yvette Ishimwe. It delivers climate-smart, affordable clean water using eco-friendly “Tap & Drink” Water ATMs, kiosks, rainwater harvesting systems, and solar-powered pumps. With a unique franchise model, local youth—especially women—manage water points in communities and schools, creating jobs while promoting sustainable water access. Operating in Rwanda, DR Congo, and Central African Republic, IRIBA has reached over 500,000 people, created nearly 200 jobs (86% female-operated), and substantially reduced plastic waste and CO₂ emissions. Their solutions are about 70% cheaper than packaged bottled water and include WASH education to improve health outcomes. With plans to scale to 5 million people, IRIBA aims to replicate its model through “Master Area Franchises,” empowering local entrepreneurs and fostering climate resilience via affordable water solutions.
