Product description
The Wavepiston wave energy system is a cutting-edge solution that harnesses the power of ocean waves to generate renewable electricity and provide desalinated water in coastal areas. The system consists of a floating wave energy converter made up of a long string of steel-mounted plates that move with the waves. Through a patented force-cancellation mechanism, the forces between plates counterbalance, reducing mooring loads and enabling cost-effective deployment.
As the plates oscillate, they induce hydraulic pumping of seawater through an onboard system, which then channels pressurized water ashore. This pressurized water can be used to drive turbines for electricity generation or feed reverse osmosis units for desalination purposes. The system is designed to be modular and easily scalable, with a recent full-scale deployment off Gran Canaria featuring a 200m string with 24 collector plates generating approximately 200kW of power. This output is sufficient to power 140 households or provide 150,000m³ of desalinated water annually.
One of the key advantages of the Wavepiston system is its minimal visual footprint, as it is mechanical and fully submerged. Additionally, the system supports local assembly and maintenance, making it a sustainable infrastructure solution for remote or coastal communities.
