Product description

Green Worms operates a circular waste management platform that transforms waste into usable raw materials and supports last-mile collection systems. They partner with local communities, especially women, to formalize them as “waste-preneurs” who collect and segregate waste at source. The waste is transported to sorting hubs, processed (cleaned, shredded, separated), and then converted into recycled materials (plastics, paper, textiles) with traceability. Through their “Procure4Circularity” program, they offer brands the ability to procure post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials with full transparency and compliance with circular economy principles. They also support Extended Producer Responsibility compliance, materials neutrality programs, and waste audits for companies. Their approach integrates social inclusion (fair wages, safe working conditions) with environmental impact, creating jobs while closing loops in material flows.

Key characteristics and environmental benefits

Key Characteristics

  • Operates at the “last mile” — in rural / village / island / small town contexts

  • Partners with local women and low-income communities, turning them into micro entrepreneurs (waste-preneurs)

  • Offers modular waste collection, source segregation, sorting, recycling, and traceable material procurement

  • Provides services to brands (EPR compliance, circular procurement, traceability)

  • Uses data and transparency to connect waste streams to recycling supply chains

  • Engages local governments for waste management baseline, advisory, and customized interventions

  • Processes multiple waste streams: plastics, paper, textiles, etc.

  • Supports swapping, upcycling, repair, recycling for textiles

  • Certifies or participates in ocean-bound plastics collection (for coastal / island contexts)

  • Focuses on sustainability in operations, dignity in employment, and social inclusion

Environmental & Social Benefits

  • Diverts waste from landfills, open dumps, and oceans, reducing pollution

  • Reduces demand for virgin raw materials by supplying recycled materials

  • Lowers greenhouse gas emissions associated with production of virgin plastics and materials

  • Mitigates plastic leakage into marine ecosystems, especially in coastal and island communities

  • Encourages source segregation, which improves quality and recyclability of waste streams

  • Empowers marginalized populations (especially women) through dignified employment and microenterprise

  • Enhances local capacity for waste handling, reducing burden on centralized systems

  • Increases transparency and accountability in waste / material supply chains

  • Helps brands meet their sustainability, EPR, and ESG goals

  • Builds resilience in communities against waste crises, flooding (clogged drains), and environmental health hazards

About the Company

Green Worms is a social enterprise based in India that promotes a circular economy by transforming waste into resources, while creating dignified livelihoods for vulnerable communities. The organization works predominantly “at the last mile” — in villages, coastal communities, and small towns — to collect, sort, recycle, and upcycle waste materials through partnerships with local waste-prenuers (especially women). Green Worms also supports brands and governments with solutions in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), traceable procurement of recycled materials, and circular design. Their mission is to eradicate waste and poverty simultaneously by integrating social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and economic viability. Green Worms is active in providing customized waste management services, traceability in recycled supply chains, and capacity building for communities and local governments.
